Body Psychotherapy
In body psychotherapy clients can come to know feelings through the body’s actual sensations, rather than ‘thinking through’ them. Supported by their therapist people can learn to recognise emotions and begin to explore or express them more safely and openly.
This way of working would be helpful for individuals who live in their heads and want to get to know their where their emotions are stored. It can also assist in developing language to communicate what you are feeling.
Individuals who suffer physical symptoms as a means to cope with stress would work well with this model as it helps identify the trauma being held in the body and relieve the symptoms. Body-Centred Psychotherapists view the body as a resource for self-discovery and healing.
